1-Business Plan
To start any business, be it pure water business, supermarket or even any
other
online business, you must start with first writing your BUSINESS PLAN.
A Business plan is a written document showing details of your pure water
business (or any other business) startup, operational objectives and
strategies. Startup and operating costs, marketing, advertising and sales
strategies, pricing and profit margins, supplier lists, insurance information
and lots more .
Your plan after being draft and proofed can be used for obtaining loans, get
investors and for other analytical purposes. Business plan can be modified as
your business grows.
You can write a business plan by yourself or you may hire a consultant to
write one for you.

2- Land/Building/Factory Site
In my previous articles about pure water business, I have often removed this
very first and important thing you need before you can start your water
factory. I deliberately omit it because any business owner knows that they
need land, or building for their water factory, because water for consumption
can not be produced in just any factory site, not to talk of an open space.
However, most of my clients already have a building they want to use for the
factory, sometimes the building may just need a little correction of the
layout to fit into a factory that would be easily approved by NAFDAC.
Pure Water Building Layout
Well, you need at least a plot of land for your pure water factory or even
more. Again I have seen clients make mistakes of setting their pure water
factory on a small plot, like half a plot or even far lesser than that. The
whole business is choked up, your production room is choked, the storage is
choked and you will hardly even be having a place to park any truck or other
vehicles.
My advice is for you to use a plot of land, your business may bloom up in no
time and you will be restricted in what quantity you can produce, the number
of people who can be in the factory at the same time and you may end up losing
business to competitors when you are unable to attend to all your clients and
customers.
To buy a plot of land in Lagos, you need a between N1.5million to N4.5million,
in Ikorodu, Epe and some developing settlements in the state.
Look at what your pure water factory layout structure should look like

When you have acquired your land, budget about N5million to N10 million
for constructing a bungalow that will serve as your factory together with
fencing, finishing and furnishing, digging of borehole, and interlocking the
compound.
3- Distillation System
Now that you are through with your building and structuring and borehole, you
have to start with the Distillation process. Its the Distillation system you
chose that will determine whether people will like the taste of your water
or not. However the system are not the same in terms of cost and
effectiveness.
Reverse Osmosis is one of the most widely used and easier to install system.
It produces water with highest level of purity and very perfect for your pure
water production if you can afford it.
Most pure water makers in Nigeria use just ultra violet bulb for
purifying their water which is not that effective but cheaper.
See picture of an ultra violet bulb treatment system look like.
A standard distillation system, depending on what you chose may cost between
N1million to N10million.
What is used by most Nigeria Pure water business owners is the Ultra Violet
Filtration processing. The entire purification processing machines costs less
than N400,000 compare to N1million or upto N10 million of the other processes
above.
Automatic Sealing Machine
This is almost the most important thing in your factory. Without the automatic
sealing machine machine, you can not have a pure water.
Take note that machines used for bottling line is totally different from the
automatic sealing machine, so if you are going into sachet and bottled water,
you need another machine for the purpose of bottling different from your
sachet sealing machine.
You can start with one automatic sealing machine, depending on the volume of
water you intend to produce per day.
Koyo sachet water sealing machine type is very ideal. This machine is
high precision packing machine and the one of most advanced liquid compound
packaging machine available, which stands at the size of a double door
refrigerator, three side sealing and intermittent. It can automatically
complete Bag making, filling, sealing, printing, cutting and counting.
Controlled by microprocessor and automatic photocell.
The price is between N650,000 and N750,000. One
Dingli Sealing machine can take care of the entire production on daily basis.
It works automatically and does it’s work efficiently.
Truck/Vehicle
You can hardly do a pure water business without having a truck or vehicle for
carrying your products to where they are demanded. I have mentioned it over
again in my past articles that you need to get a good truck that will not
breakdown when it is needed. You need a good truck that can go into any road
where supply is needed. You can budget up to N1.5million and above for your
truck
Staffing
This is one of the most important aspects of your pure water business just
like every other business that will survive. You will need minimum of
between seven to ten persons to work in your factory for a start then
increase with time as the demand may be.
Be careful in your selection. Below are the personnel your company needs.
Depending on the number of machines and trucks you have for your factory you
will need at least:
Operator/Manager(1): Your
production manager should either be a food nutritionist, food technologist,
chemical scientists, microbiologist or a water engineer. The production
manager may double as cashier unless you can afford extra personnel which
may not be necessary.
